The history The Archdiocesan library of Ernakulam - Angamaly was started on August 22, 1924 by Archbishop Mar Augustine Kandathil. Many useful catholic magazines and books have reached in the Diocesan library of our diocese. Many priests take them and go in order to read them. It is our wish that all those who can may take and read them (Ernakulam Missam Vol: 2/X11, 1924) Following the above massage of late Archbishop Mar Kandathil, the archdiocesan library is reorganized by computerizing it in the modern decimal system. In English, Malayalam and in other languages there is lot of valuable books in the library. Most of the books are donated by late Cardinals, archbishops and bishops. Among them, the collections of late Cardinal Joseph Parecattil is most valuable. Many priests also have contributed to the library their valuable books. The books in library belong to different branches, especially religious, linguistic, literary sections. In Malayalam and English very valuable collections of poetry, travel logs, short stories, novels etc are kept. In the religious section, books on all most all branches of theology, philosophy, moral theology, bible etc are found. More than 100 weeklies and magazines regularly come to the library. The archdiocesan Liberty stands as a hall mark in the midst of the city of Cochin, as a pride in the horizon of Books and Magazines. |
