This is to inform a good news regarding the setting up of a good library for the Archdiocese, fitting its name. We all know there is not a single library in Cochin with catholic, religious and theological books. We have an asset of a large number of these books, though unorganized, in the library. What we lack is the organization of the library in the computerized decimal system, which avails the opportunity of easy access to this vast world of wisdom. Next, what we are urgently in need of is the collection of contemporary books. It atomizes the updating of the library, which is the very life of a good library. We are happy to inform that the classification of the books according to the modern system is in good progress. But our next step would be the collection of contemporary books and periodicals.

There is an increase in the interest of the people who come in search of books for a good library with modern books and periodicals. Setting up of a CD library is also a useful possibility and the work of it is in progress. Man has progressed in all his modes of acquiring and expressions of knowledge. The Church, I think, is a bit slow and reluctant to open her doors of wisdom and spirituality to the modern man, who is well versed in the modern systems of acquiring knowledge. A library should be equipped with at least an average standard of function useful for anyone who enters. The first and foremost thing a Christian has to bear in mind is a sense of mission attached to his being a Christian i.e. to convey the word of God. Library can be a medium of this mission that the Church has to take up in Her community building

We are grateful to our Beloved Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil and our bishops Mar Thomas Chakkiath and Mar Sebastian Adayanthrath for their valuable interest and co-operation in the setting up of and the working of the archdiocesan Library. Our grateful thanks is to be expressed to all the late Archbishops, esp. Late Cardinal Parecattil and other priests who have contributed their great treasure of books to our library. Many come with great interest to contribute books and periodicals to the library, is a matter of joy to convey.

Please do write to us ur suggestions and advices. We earnestly request U to write and send the names of the modern books and periodicals that are a necessity for the Archdiocesan Library. It is also an act of charity if U can recommend, suggest or acquire copies of books, periodicals or CDs for the library, in ur place of work or study and in ur capacity. Any kind of contribution in this regard will be acknowledged with honor in the name of the Archdiocesan Library.
