The Project
Introduction:
The Archdioccsan library is kept at the top floor of
the building and it contains very valuable books along with books
and articles given to the Archdiocese by the retired priests.
The place has not been maintained very well to the ruin of some
of the valuable documents. It has also become pretty hard to find
some valuable books for reference. Hence this project is to
renovate the library with the following objectives
Objectives:
1. Remove all the duplicate copies of the books and articles
2. Remove books which are highly outdated or which are no
value for the present of for the future
3. Place the books on a coordinated fashion
4. Create an atmosphere for reading with some sofas and work
places
5. Create a reference section with books which could not be
given outside
6. Creating a lending polices for books and other materials
7. Create a data base on the computer with all the available
books
8. Create an atmosphere whereby priests will be able to come
and use the Library
9. Create a mini library downstairs with latest books to
introduce the priests to a habit of reading
10. Introduce the young priests to the habit of using the
library on an ongoing basis
Action Plan:
1.1 It will be very important to take a stock of
the books and articles available so that the duplicate
ones can be removed of given away
1.2 Minor Seminary or other institutions will be able to
make use of the duplicate copies of some of the books
and articles
1.3 Removing the most damaged books and articles unless
they can be saved
2.1 Sometimes priests have donated all their books to the
Library and some of them are not highly useful for
future reference or for reading. Those materials can
be removed from the librarv after careful consideration.
2.2 Some of the books were relevant when they were published
and must have lost their value by the present time.
They too can be removed from the shelf Some of the
publications are not useful for either reference or for
reading. "1 hey too can be removed from the shelf and can
be donated or destroyed.
3.1 Some engineering and carpentry assistance have to be sought
to find the best way to design the place in such
a way that the books can be placed in an attractive fashion
3.2 Some methodology will have to be followed so that the books
can be easily traced and used.
4.1 Priests can come and spend a few moments in going through
some reference and hence some sofas should be provided for
them to sit and read a book
4.2 Some may want to do research and hence work stations should
be provided for hem to spend a long duration of time
5.1 Every library has a reference section with books, which
cannot be given outside. This will be placed in a different
shelf and users should return them after their use in the
Library.
5.2 If some reference section can be photocopied, they should
^pthat in the Curia.
6.1 Library must have a lending policy of its books and
articles. Books can be returned even when the Library is
closed and some penalty should be put in place for those
who are returning the books with undue delay.
6.2 Lending policies must be designed in such a way to encourage
the maximum number of users for our library
7.1 Library must have a computer system and all the available
books should be entered there and properly numbered so that
they can be easily traced. This will remain the heart of the
work and eareful attention must be placed to enter the data
carefully and properly.
7.2 Expert advise have to be sought in this regard our system
is scientific and user friendly.
8.1 Whatever publicity can be given should be given so that
priesls will come and use he Library. Since we are at
the heart of the town, it will also useful to our lay
people who are doing different courses at the Renewal
centre. It should be promoted and should be seen as a
service given by the Archdiocese to the society
8.2 Our missam, Sathyadeepam etc can be our media for letting
people know about the existence of such library.
9.1 A mini library can be set up downstairs to wet the appetite
of the readers who come to the Archbishop's house. It could
include new publications and forthcoming releases.
It will encourage them to come and use the Library
10.1 One of the main thrusts remains to introduce our young
priests to the habit of eading good publications and
thereby strengthen the proclamation of the word. In this
regard, they should be given proper direction asto
how to use theLibrary.
10.2 Silence is part and parcel of a library and should be
strictly maintained Any person who comes to use the
Library should not carry any articles or baggage to the
Library.
10.3 There should be an assistant who will be helping those who
come to the Library
